Monash Green wins national award

Canberra’s Monash Green Retirement Village, nominated by AMC Architecture and owned and operated by Goodwin, has won the 2015 Lend Lease Award for Best Retirement Living Development at the Property Council’s Innovation and Excellence Awards.

Located in Tuggeranong on Canberra’s south side, Monash Green is one of four retirement living villages operated by Goodwin in Canberra.

Constructed over seven years, Monash Green is a predominantly low-rise village with a number of simple but effective design initiatives. Damming a dividing floodway between the original and new villages has created a lake of significant size – an attractive focal point. An extensive pedestrian path network and themed garden areas provide popular meeting places and promote health and activity.

Community facilities – including a clubhouse, mini golf course, bowling green, café, hairdresser and other community services – are co-located for convenience.  The 150 independent living units are fully adaptable to facilitate ageing in place, while a two-storey residential aged care facility provides 120 beds.

“Monash Green is an impressive development that underscores why downsizing can mean upsizing in terms of amenity, liveability and community engagement,” says the Property Council of Australia’s Chief Executive, Ken Morrison.

“We know that the number of seniors wanting to live in retirement villages will double by 2025 – rising to 382,000 nationally.  Innovative developments such as Monash Green provide people with alternatives that can help them stay within the community they love, and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle for longer.”
