The retirement living sector is focused on ensuring senior Australians have a comfortable and enjoyable retirement – but this can’t happen without committed young talent entering our industry and emerging as the next generation of leaders to take us forward into an exciting new era.

The Rising Generation Award, presented by Ingenia Communities, offers the opportunity for individuals to showcase their success in the retirement living industry and to be recognised by their peers.

The award reflects the industry’s commitment for supporting the next generation of leaders and demonstrates the important contribution this industry makes to the Australian economy.

The Rising Generation Award promotes a clear message to the community of the retirement living industry’s commitment to the future; and its constant drive towards improvement and best practice.

Nominees will be those people constantly striving to raise the bar and think outside the box. They must be innovative, visionary and display dynamic leadership qualities that are deserving of this coveted award.


To be a contender for the Rising Generation Award, nominees must showcase their technical skills, leadership abilities and capacity to innovate. Nominees will be armed with a vision about the retirement living industry’s evolution and the changes required, ensuring it thrives into the future.

The Rising Generation Award is open to members of the Property Council of Australia working within the retirement living industry, for at least twelve months. Nominees are:

  • Under the age of 30 years; or
  • Between 30 and 40 years and have worked within the industry for less than five years.


The winner will be a person who displays innovation and leadership in their work, and upholds the values of the industry. The winner will receive a $2000 contribution towards their career development, as well as an accommodation voucher for use at an Ingenia lifestyle and holiday park.


A panel of judges will review all nominations and will select a winner.

  • Stage 1: semi-finalists will be selected from those nominated;
  • Stage 2: semi-finalists will be interviewed;
  • Stage 3: Judges will meet to determine the 2016 winner, to be announced at the National Retirement Living Summit on 28 November 2016.

Emma Plasier established Shine Retirement in September 2015 after working in social housing and in business development for a village operator. Emma’s vision for Shine Retirement was to provide a service to help seniors navigate the sometimes-complex transition to retirement living by helping them understand the market and then guiding them in finding the “best-fit” retirement living option relative to their needs, wants and budget. Her concept has been enthusiastically embraced by clients and village operators alike, and now Shine Retirement provides additional services such as introductions to lawyers, real estate agents and financial planners, and even assisting in the coordination of removalists.


Zlate Josevski joined the Lendlease Retirement Living team in June 2014 as Campaign and Content Specialist. Zlate has been outstanding in his role and showed incredible commitment, knowledge and diligence in improving Lendlease’s key content pillars to its target market. Rated as one of Lendlease’s top performers for 2014-15, Zlate’s improvement to customer content has resulted in a 12 per cent increase in total enquiries for the year, the highest ever achieved. Recently receiving a promotion into the role of Customer Experience Manager, Zlate is now transferring his skills in engaging customers across the spectrum of Customer Experience, from journey mapping to marketing automation.


Will Campbell (former Graphic Designer at RetireAustralia) started in a Graphic Design studio at just 16 and quickly fell in love with the world of creative arts, print and visual communication.  With a keen eye for branding and corporate marketing, he spent the next 6 years working in a boutique studio in Manchester. At 21, Will left the UK on an around-the-world adventure and one of his stops was Australia. He never left. Will joined RetireAustralia in 2010 as Graphic Designer, responsible for the creation of all marketing collateral. During that time he has successfully rebranded the company and strived to show RetireAustralia as a true market leader. With 12 years’ experience in the design industry, Will is now a newly self- employed graphic designer and creative director.


Martin Bending (Australian Unity Retirement Living Services) is an exercise physiologist who has created safe, fun and beneficial exercise programs for older Australians. He personifies what the industry is after; a self-starter with enthusiasm, passion and vision. After starting with 40 client records, he now has more than 500. Martin’s programs have had a demonstrable impact on residents’ health and wellbeing. As a lecturer and clinical supervisor in exercise physiology, he also acts as an ambassador for our industry.


Nathan Broad (Ingenia Communities) is Regional Manager – Victoria & NSW at Ingenia Communities. In 2012, Nathan was awarded the Rising Generation Award for his contribution to IRT. Today, Nathan currently oversees multi-site operations and drives outcomes in the Garden Villages seniors rental portfolio for Ingenia Communities. His career started with foundation years in local government. Nathan then joined IRT and the retirement living industry in 2007. Within five years of working across Marketing, ICT, Human Resources and Finance teams, Nathan was afforded great insight to the outcomes of each aspect of a large Seniors Living and Aged Care operator. The highlight of this tenure was a 12 month secondment to manage a 262 unit DMF and 60 bed RACF village.
